7PLIS, handcrafted eyewear from recycled skateboards!

7PLIS is a new brand of premium glasses and accessories, made in France and recycled from old used skateboard decks (wooden). Adding value to old skateboard decks in this way is a bit crazy but very ingenious idea of Florent Baraban, optician-eyewear and founder of the brand. Let’s give a focus on those skate-handcrafted eyewear!

Why is it called 7Plis?

The number of layers of wood (Canadian maple) that make up a skateboard deck is 7 and “plis” in french means layer or fold.

A Skateboard is composed of 7 layers of Canadian maple.

Materials used

7PLIS’ team collects all kinds of skateboard decks (wooden) across France, skateboards from amateur or more professional skaters including those of Adrien Bulard!

These skateboard decks are then delicately recycled in order to bring it to another life and enhance their stories.

Production, a handmade process

Each skateboard deck lends itself perfectly to the design of the frame, the curve of the skate is thus preserved in order to give the frame an effective support and optimal comfort for the wearer.

Moreover, the initial color of each board is kept, these being made up of 7 more or less colored maple plies. Then the signs of wear can also be valued in order to bring a very particular singularity to each creation and thus makes it possible to realize that the piece of wood has been skated for hours before correcting your eyesight or protecting your eyes from the sun.

Finally, the wood material being made up of several plies allows very great resistance as well as a real lightness, which makes it an ideal companion for the making of spectacle frames (corrective or protective).

Made up of several plies of colored maple, the wood of the skateboard is a particularly strong and light material. Retail price is 480€.

Each of their masterpieces thus receives a special attention in order to provide optimal comfort to the person who will revive this old piece of trampled wood.
